5 Super Helpful Google Chrome Extensions

5 super helpful Google Chrome extensions

If you spend a lot of time working in a browser, the right Chrome extensions can make a real difference. I'm always testing new ones, and most of them get uninstalled pretty quickly. Either they're more complicated than they need to be, require payment to be able to do certain tasks when they said they were free, or they just don't end up being as useful as they seemed at first.

But these five have stuck around. I keep coming back to them because they actually save me time in ways that matter. Some of them I use every single day without even thinking about it at this point.

They're all free, and at least a few of them will probably be useful to you too.

1- News Feed Eradicator:

This extension removes the news feed from different sites: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and more. You choose which ones to block, and it replaces the feed with a single quote instead.

I use it to block the Facebook feed specifically. It lets me keep Facebook open to check in on groups I'm part of, without going down the Facebook feed rabbit hole. I honestly can't quantify how much time this has saved me, which is why it's first on the list.

2- Scribe

Scribe automatically captures screenshots as you click through a process and turns them into a step-by-step guide instantly. No recording, no editing, no screen time for your client to sit through.

I use it to send clients instructions for things that are specific to their setup, like how to update a registration form for the following year. Most clients prefer it over a video because they can scan through it at their own pace and refer back to specific steps without having to scrub through a recording.

I also use Scribe to build out tutorial libraries, so clients have a reference for the things they'll need to do on their own going forward. If you've ever had a client ask you to walk them through something again that you already covered, Scribe solves that

3- ColorZilla

ColorZilla extracts the exact hex code or RGB code for the color on any point on a website. It also keeps a history of colors you've picked so you can go back and find them later.

Some of my clients don't have a formal brand guide, so I use this to pull colors directly from their website and use them in their Dubsado forms, client portal banners, and brand settings. You can also open an image in Chrome and pull a color from a specific spot in the image.

4- WhatFont

WhatFont identifies the fonts used on any website. Hover over text and it shows the font name. Click on it and you get more details including weight, size, line height, and color.

I use it to identify fonts on my clients' websites so I know which ones to use in their Dubsado forms. Once I know the font, I can tell whether it's available natively in Dubsado or whether I'll need to add it with CSS.

5- GoFullPage

GoFullPage takes a screenshot of an entire webpage, not just what's visible on screen. One click captures everything from top to bottom and saves it as an image or PDF.

I use it to capture full-page screenshots of Dubsado forms I've designed for my portfolio. I also use it when designing forms to step back and see the full page at once, which makes it easier to spot whether colors are balanced, whether something feels too heavy in one area, and whether the overall layout works.
